This highly anticipated permanent new installation opens on October 31 in historic Fifth Ward and invites guests to take a thrilling journey through a surreal radio station that has been transported into another dimension, revealing a labyrinth of paths, portals, and hidden doors, all filled with interactive mysteries for guests to solve. This immersive experience will let you enter the stunning art worlds of local Houston artists and Meow Wolf’s signature creative teams.
Born in Santa Fe in 2008 as an underground art collective, Meow Wolf comprises hundreds of artists and storytellers from all over the universe. Together, they imagine and create new immersive worlds to explore. Radio Tave is Meow Wolf´s fifth permanent installation in the U.S., and it stands out as an experience unlike anything the collective has created before.
Radio Tave guests will experience unique adventures when exploring the seemingly endless choices presented by the exhibition’s vibrant realms: a cavernous grotto with living instruments, a cowboy dive bar caught between realms, the ETNL radio station, and the introspective realms (and extroverted house parties) of Obsidiodyssey, a multi-roomed space by Santa Fe artist Janell Langford depicting the highs and lows of the creative process. Designed by over 100 artists—50 from Texas, including Cole Bee Wilson and Houston’s renowned Havel Ruck Projects, Radio Tave fuses Houston’s electric art scene with Meow Wolf’s next-level storytelling.
Spencer Olsen, Senior Creative Director for Meow Wolf Houston, describes Radio Tave as a story about a group of everyday colleagues who find their way through an otherworldly experience by embracing new possibilities. And Gil Perez, General Manager for Meow Wolf Houston, assures that Radio Tave will offer you a journey through the depths of your own imagination, adding that “from the moment you step inside, you will be transported into an entirely new reality - one that defies expectation and invites endless exploration and creativity.”
Radio Tave introduces a cast of new characters, and observant fans will spot familiar themes and appearances from beloved figures in Meow Wolf’s universe. This exhibition marks an important moment in Meow Wolf’s ongoing narrative, blending new adventures with subtle nods that will resonate with longtime followers.
Guests can also enjoy a cowboy dive bar and restaurant, venue space, and a gift shop as part of the experience. The psychedelic bar Cowboix Hevvven, led by Senior Artist and Creative Director Cole Wilson, promises to transport guests into a surreal dive bar in the afterlife. This bar and restaurant filled with immersive art combines the charm of a honky tonk watering hole filled with Meow Wolf's signature creativity and characters.
One of Cowboix Hevvven’s cosmic country elements is an interactive jukebox that blends traditional country melodies with futuristic soundscapes, featuring 30 songs recorded by a diverse array of Texas musical artists. This auditory journey spans eras and styles, including classic country, Americana, Ranchero, Tejano, and country-adjacent tracks, showcasing the talent of 30 Texas artists and enhancing the exhibit’s Lonestar experience. "My hope is that visitors will dive into Cowboix Hevvven with the same curiosity that fueled its creation. I hope they leave with a renewed sense of wonder and an appreciation for how blending the familiar with the unexpected can create something truly weird and wonderful," says Wilson.
The food and drink selection at Cowboix Hevvven complements the immersive experience with a distinctive twist on classic dive bar fare. The menu was created to enhance (and reflect) the atmosphere, offering a spot where visitors to Meow Wolf’s worlds in Houston can enjoy some otherworldly Texan hospitality and comfort food.
